Application
SC catalytic treatment plant with contact condensation option is used for purification of highly contaminated industrial emissions during transhipment and storage of hydrocarbons.
SC catalytic treatment plant is used for purification of industrial emissions from the following contaminants:
- carbon monoxide (CO)
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- benzene, toluene, xylene, phenol, formaldehyde, methanol, butyl acetate, acetone, acetic acid, styrene and other saturated, unsaturated, cyclic, aromatic hydrocarbons and their derivatives (alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, etc.).
- chloromethane, chlorobenzene, methyl chloride and other organic compounds.
For the optimal selection of the required SC plant module, use the Table of the main sources of industrial emissions.
-
Operating principle
The technological solution of the SC plant is based on the deep catalytic (flameless) oxidation of a wide range of organic compounds and the reduction of contaminants to non-toxic substances – carbon dioxide and water.
Technological process
STAGE 1. Absorption column. Partial absorption of hydrocarbons.
-
Highly contaminated gas emissions are directed from the fan (1) to the lower section of packed absorber (2).
-
Refluxing of the absorber is carried out by liquid hydrocarbons condensed in the process of operation.
-
The circulating condensate is cooled via a plate heat exchanger* in order to increase its absorption capacity.
-
The heat-transfer fluid (glycol solution) circulating in the second heat exchanger circuit is cooled in the chiller (3).
-
The gases passing through the absorber cool down and desorb most of the heavy hydrocarbons.
-
The condensed liquid component is discharged into the storage tank (4).
-
The cooled gas is directed to the catalytic oxidation unit for further treatment.
STAGE 2. Afterburner. Catalytic neutralization
-
The catalytic unit (5) is preliminary heated by electric heaters to the process activation temperature.
-
When process stabilizes, the heaters are switched off. The operating temperature of the inlet flow is ensured by the recovery of the exiting gas heat.
-
To maintain the unit temperature and oxidizing conditions, additional atmospheric air dilution by the fan is provided (6).
-
The process of oxidation of organic substances to non-toxic carbon dioxide and water is carried out on a platinum catalyst (5).
-
The decontaminated gases are cooled in the recovery HX by the inlet flow and discharged into the atmosphere.
Advantages of the basic module of the SC plant with contact condensation option:
-
most of the hydrocarbons are sorbed
-
the remaining contaminants are fed into the decontamination process.
*The type of heat exchanger depends on the unit’s construction
